Emmanuel Andrist was born in Bern, Switzerland on August 18, 1867 and came with the family to this country in 1868 when he was only seven months old. Here he grew to manhood.
On September 8, 1900 he married Mary Jane Derby of Milton Township. They resided in Berne in Dodge County for a year and later moved to Ottertail County. In 1913 they went to the northern part of Minnesota and in 1932 they returned and settled on a farm near Pine Island, Minnesota where he spent the remainder of his life in the circle of his family.
Emmanuel "Mac" was the 2nd youngest of 5 sons of Freidrich and Magdalena Andrist. Siblings are; Samuel of Milton, Frederick, Jacob and Godfrey of Berne community and the latter two having preceeded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Mary and 11 children: Charles, Melvin, David, Walter, John, Mrs. Lloyd (Jessie) Bradford, Mrs. Arlie (Effie) Kundert, Mrs. Milbert (Alma) Bornholdt, Calvin, Alfred and Anna and 18 grandchildren.
Mr. Andrist died suddenly last Monday at his home from a heart attack and had reached the age of 73 years and 3 months. He was kindhearted and though he had undergone several operations and was under failing health he remained courageous and cheerful. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.
Funeral services were Friday afternoon, Nov 22, 1940 at 1 pm the home and at 2 pm at the Berne Church. Rev. Edwin H. Vornholt officiating, burial was in the Berne Cemetery, Dodge County, Minnesota.
