After serving in the Navy Dick married Virginia Redmann and they had 1 son Richard Gene Rider. They lived in S. California for several years. After his divorce he moved to Humboldt County, Ca. in about 1958 & went to work for Collins Roofing & sheet medal in Redway. He was known in Humboldt County, Siskiyou County, & anyplace he lived as the best roofer around. He was also a very good carpenter, always repairing family and friends porch, doors, and even adding rooms on to their house.
Dick married Edith Gossien Lankford a widow with 5 kids May 5th, 1961.
He loved to camp, picnics with plenty of ice cold watermelon and his ice cold beer. His main hobby was fishing, any kind of fishing, from cold creeks trout fishing, sitting up all night at the lake cat fishing, or going out to Shelter Cove Ocean fishing all day in a boat.
With every meal he had hot peppers and a spoon full of pear or watermelon preserves his wife Edith canned.
Dick died of lung cancer at 55 years, 5 months, 12 days old a very proud grandfather of 13.
