SERVICES HELD FOR AREA SOLDIER MORTALLY WOUNDED IN VIETNAM

Private First Class Clifford Sell, Jr., was laid to rest in the Trachsville Cemetery yesterday, Wednesday afternoon, May 1, 1968, with military rites at graveside, following services conducted in the R. M. James Funeral Home, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

PFC Sell was wounded on Wednesday, April 17th while serving in action with the 1st Cavalry Division of the United States Army. He succumbed on Friday, April 19th and his wife was notified of her husband's death on Wednesday of last week. Official word was brought to her by Lt. Carl Walsh and Sgt. Snowden of the Hazelton station of the United States Army.

The 23 year old victim was born in Palmerton. He was a son of Clifford Sell, Sr., of Slatington and of Mrs. Ruth (nee Allen) Sell, Anthony, of Walnutport. He was married on September 3rd, 1966. His wife, an expectant mother, is residing with her parents in Palmerton.

Clifford attended the public elementary school in Palmerton, and Slatington High School, before entering the service on June 6th of last year. Sell received his basic training at Fort Gordon, Georgia and then was sent to Camp Polk, Louisiana, before going to Vietnam.

Pfc. Sell was attached to Company A, 5th Brigade, 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, Air FSC.

He was a member of the Hillside Church of God Congregation in Palmerton.

Surviving the fallen soldier, in addition to his wife and parents, are a sister, a brother, three step-sisters, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Allen of Lehighton, Route 3.

The young soldier was well known in the Lehigh Valley area, and news of his untimely and tragic death stirred his many friends and acquaintances. We join them in offering our heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.

Clifford's step-sister, Debra A. "Debbie" Anthony Marth, passed away, after a seven year battle with ovarian cancer, on October 12, 2014.
