Surgoinsville - John Franklin Barton, age 75, Surgoinsville, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998 at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was a life-long resident of Hawkins County and attended the Fudges Chapel United Methodist Church and was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Barton; parents, Joe and Maude Ward Barton; brothers, Jimmy Barton and Ralph Barton; and sisters, Mary Johnson and Ellanea Bruner.
He is survived by his wife, Mamie (Sis) Dickerson Barton, Surgoinsville; a daughter, Janice and son-in-law, Robert Brooks, Surgoinsville; a son, Joey William Barton, Surgoinsville; three grandchildren, Cheryl Davis, Regina McGinnis, and Johnny Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Dalton Davis and Shyanna McGinnis; four sisters, Mabel Smith, Church Hill, Elizabeth Harrell, Surgoinsville, Ruth Vilko, Amisville, VA, and Louise Crawford, Indianapolis, IN; four brothers, Roach Barton, Roosevelt (Pete) Barton, Oscar Barton, and Bill Barton, all of Surgoinsville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lyle Housewright officiating. Graveside services were held Saturday at the Church Hill Memory Gardens.
