While playing on the Blish lot, corner of Bruce and East streets, Mike Allegro, age ten years, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Allegro, was killed when he was buried in a landslide of sand and gravel. With him and narrowly escaping death was Claude Sciarra, son of Mr. and Mrs, Fred Sciarra. The quick action of Hiram Jones, a South Chestnut street druggist, probably saved the Sciarra's boys life.

Children had been using the lot, and the large pile of sand and dirt for a playground for some time, having dug a several caves into the large pile. The face of the pile gave way burying the Allegro boy and covering the Sciarra boy to the waist.

Hiram Jones was on an errand to deliver medicine and heard the Sciarra boy yelling for help and saw a cloud of dust rise into the air. He ran to the place and with the help of another bystander began the work of rescuing the Sciarra boy and uncovering the victim. Several men from the Blish mill ran to the scene with picks and shovels to aid with the rescue.

Mike Allegro was born June 1, 1912 in this city, and was the older of two sons of Mr. and Mrs. James Allegro. He is survived by his parents, an older sister, Josephine and a younger brother, Augustine.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church with the Rev, Father C. J. Conrad in charge. Burial in the Catholic cemetery.
