Incorrect birth on headstone. Actual birth date was 20 Jun 1873 Bath County, Kentucky according to 1900 census and WW I Draft Registration Card where Ed gave his birth date.

Married Emma Jackson in 1895 according to the 1900 census. No children from this marriage. Son of Thomas Jefferson Barnes & Dollie Clayton.

In the 1900 census, Edward & wife Emma were partners as hotel keepers with Emma's sister Kate & husband John D McIntyre in Owingsville.

"Began furniture and undertaking business with Wm R Peters, Jr of Bethel called Barnes & Peters." Owingsville Outlook, 30 Aug 1906.

In the 1910 census, he was a clerk in the furniture store and embalmer. In the 1920 census, he was an undertaker and owned his own business. In the 1930 census, he was a furniture dealer.

He was listed as a funeral director & Owingsville resident on his death certificate. He died in a Lexington hospital.
