Joseph Noble Stockett, son of Dr. Tomas Noble Stockett and Mary Harwood his wife, was born at "The Obligation" on November 16, 1779. On November 19, 1812, he married Ann Caroline Battee, born June 3, 1797. The license was obtained in Anne Arundel on November 17. She died on December 22, 1814. No issue survived.

On June 24, 1816, he secured license to marry Ann Sellman. According to his Bible "Joseph N. Stockett and Ann Sellman daughter of General John Sellman were married on the 25th day of June 1816."

Several children were born to that union, but most of them died young, that is, Francis John, Harriet, Mary Anne, and Thomas Noble.

On November 17, 1825, he took as his third wife Sophia "daughter of Colonel Joseph Watkins and Anne his wife." She was born on November 8, 1799.

His wife, Sophia, born November 8, 1799, died on April 11, 1839, the day after the birth of her ninth child.

On May 30, 1841, he took his fourth wife, Anne Watkins, born October 14, 1795, who died childless on May 2, 1846. She was the sister to his third wife.

At the 1850 census for Anne Arundel Joseph Noble Stockett was the head of a family with realty appraised at $16,000.00. He gave his age as 70, and the following children were at home: Thomas, aged 20; Charles, 17; Anne 14; Ellen 12; and Sophia 11.

He died intestate on December 21, 1854. Frank Stockett, J. Schaaff Stockett and Thomas Stockett appeared at court on December 26, 1854, and renounced their rights to the administration of their father's estate and requested that letters be issued to their younger brother, Charles W. Stockett.

A write-up on Joseph Noble Stockett contributed by fellow Find-a-Grave member, Lois Stockett: Joseph was the son of Dr. Thomas Noble Stockett. He resided at "Obligation", which he inherited from his father. He studied medicine, but never practiced since he preferred to continue raising his father's horses and had other interests. He was a member of the South River Club nearby and enjoyed fox hunts.

Joseph married in 1812 to Ann Caroline Battee, who later died. He again married in 1816 to Ann Elizabeth Sellman, who also died. After Ann died, he married in 1825 to Sophia Watkins. His fourth wife was Ann Watkins, who he married in 1841. Joseph had 8 children.
