She came to the United States with her sister Louise aboard the ship Pallanza, traveling from Hamburg to New York City and arrived on Dec. 7, 1906. The two of them then headed to Clinton, Iowa, to join their brothers and sister Peter, John, and Anna who had previously emigrated there.
Shortly thereafter Hannah moved to Chicago where she married her first husband Wilhelm Max "George" Gustav Richter on March 23, 1911. They resided there for the birth of their first daughter, Florence Wilhelmina Richter.
They moved to Davenport, IA, before 1915, and had two more children, Mildred and Gustav. George died in Jun 1923.
The following year she married Herman Edward Martens in Davenport, and he preceded her in death in November 1938.
In total, Hannah resided in Davenport 30 years and was a member of the Auxiliary to Lodge No. 235, Eagles, and the Northwest Turner society.
