First, I want to say the Dexters were friends of my parents and played bridge with them on a fairly regular basis. After "Deck's passing I mowed the yard at 3415 Principio Ave. for "Dotsy" for several summers.
You may be woundering about the different last name between "Deck" and his parents. Well, he legally changed his last name, as is noted on his Spring Grove information card. Born; CARROL DEXTER WALKER, name change documentation to follow.
At this time the earliest date I have for "Deck" as Dexter was in 1930 on a passenger list when he returned from Europe, at the ripe old age of 23. He departed on the 4th of July from the port of Hamburg aboard the SS Hamburg, and arrived in NYC on 12 July 1930.
He had constructed a fabulous model train display in his basment on Principio Ave. A life time's work of love.
I also remember very well he sold a 1950 Buick Roadmaster (with a straight 8 engine and Dyna-flow transmission) to my Dad in 1955. I recieved that car in 1960 as a graduation gift. A never ending bind of cars between three men.
In July 1960 our family was on a trip to Virginia Beach, VA and my mom cut it short and flew back to Cincinnai for "Deck's" service.
