VINA, Ala. - Gwendalee Shotts Childers, 93, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the Red Bay Hospital. She was a native of Alabama and a homemaker. She was a member of Shottsville Methodist Church for 78 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Smith officiating. Burial will be in New Burg Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay, Ala., is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Smith of Guin, Ala.; four sons, Johnny Wayne Childers of Vina, Ala., Billy Haynes Childers and wife, Alene, of Atlanta, Ga., David Lane Childers and wife, Suzanne, of Birmingham, and Henry Chester Childers of Bull Mountain, Ala.; a sister, Velma Williams of Hamilton, Ala.; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John Chester Childers, in 1980; a son, Max Young Childers, in 1934; and a great-grandson, Tanner Colby Smith, in 1999.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before services Saturday.
