Maxine P. Hansberger left her family Saturday evening, October 15, 2011 to be with God, family and friends who went before her.
She was born on January 16, 1922 to Bert and Niola Parrish in Bristow, OK but because of the times, the family moved wherever welding work was needed. The job site of Boulder Dam and the Aqua-duct were two of her early childhood homes. Her family moved to Yuma to settle in 1936 where her dad opened Bert's Welding Works.
Maxine attended Yuma High and graduated then went to work in a ship store in Long Beach CA, during WWII. She came home to Yuma and worked at Braden Machinery as a bookkeeper later Uptown Drugstore then married Kenneth Hansberger and was a bookkeeper for the family refrigeration business in its early days. She spent several years at Arizona Western College where she studied and learned to love Art in all forms available to her. Maxine became a very talented multi-media artist. Intricate cake design and decoration was easy for her. She made beautiful wedding cakes for her family and close friends. She was a painter, potter and had an eye for beauty and re-creating it in whatever form she fancied.
Maxine was a Cub Scout den mother where she made it fun to learn many of life's skills and building blocks to become a good person. She was a long time member of the Pecan Grove Club, Elks Club of Yuma, the NRA and the American Legion.
Maxine is survived by her sister, Doris Hoffman and her son, Robin; sons, Michael Leonard, Mark Allen Hansberger and wife Diane; daughter Hillary Thomas and husband Tom; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held, in Maxine's honor, on Friday, October 21, 2011 between 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Yuma Golf and Country Club. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Yuma in her name.
