Spelling note: According to a story told by one of Joseph's grandsons, Carl W. Ducep(t), the correct spelling of the family surname was DUCEP. The doctor inadvertently added a "t" to the end of Ducep on Carl's birth certificate. He reported that the error caused him problems thoughout his life, but that the correct spelling was indeed D-U-C-E-P.
