Henry W. Hudson
Birth: 1816
Death: 1888

Civil War Union Army Officer. Served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 82nd New York Volunteer Infantry (also known as the 2nd New York Militia. He led his unit from the June 1862 Seven Days Battles, through the Antietam Campaign (where it participated in the brutal combat around the Dunker Church) and in the Battle of Fredericksburg. Just prior to the Battle of Chancellorsville he assumed command of his brigade when previous commander Brigadier General Alfred Sully ran afoul of Division Commander General John Gibbon by not suppressing effective a mutiny within the ranks of the 34th New York Infantry. His tenure in brigade command was brief, for a few days later he was found to be intoxicated by his commander and was relieved of duty. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
