RITES TODAY FOR WIFE OF SPECIALIST
Mrs. E. W. Fleming, Member of Prominent Family, Dies After Long Illness
Funeral services will be conducted at the family home, 966 South Hoover street, at 3:30 p.m. today for Mrs. Ernest William Fleming, 51 years of age, wife of Dr. E. W. Fleming, one of the prominent specialists of this city. Burial at Rosedale will be private.
Mrs. Fleming died suddenly at San Diego last Wednesday, after a long and trying illness.
Both her family and that of Dr. Fleming have resided in California since the early days, when they chose Los Angeles as the ideal western home. Mrs. Fleming was born at Springfield, O., where her father, Dr. Aaron Longstreet, stood at the head of his profession. While still young in the early '80's, she accompanied her parents to the West, and spent her girlhood days in Los Angeles, where in later years she became prominent both socially and in financial and business circles. Her death has brought sorrow to an unusually large circle of friends.
She was widely known for her kindly personality and charitable activities. Many unknown beneficiaries will miss the generous, unostentatious manifestations of her thoughtfulness and her Christian spirit.
Besides the widower she leaves two daughters, Miss Alice Fleming and Mrs. Arthur Adkisson, who have many friends and are prominent socially and in charitable and other public entertainments. Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Nelson of Upland, stepfather and mother of Mrs. Fleming, are among the largest citrus growers of the San Bernardino Valley. She leaves also three sisters, known in the early days here as the Longstreet girls, Mrs. Harriet Gay of Upland, Mrs. James W. Barnett of Chicago and Mrs. Jesse W. Olney of Adelanto. All three have large citrus holdings in the neighborhood of Upland, where Dr. Fleming is also a leading orchardist.
