Born in East Ragged Island.Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. Ned was the son of Capt. Charles William Dunn and Sophia Lydia Decker.

He married Mary Catherine Clarke daughter of Henry B. Clarke and Flora Catherine Driscoll 03 Nov 1879, Magdalen Islands.

They lived and raised their family at Old Harry, Magdalen, Islands
