Robert Lafayette Caldwell, 68, well-known ward 5 planter, died at his home on the ward five highway near the high school building, Saturday night around 10:10 o'clock. Mr. Caldwell suffered a heart attack shortly after he returned home from fishing.

"Uncle Bob", as he was affectionately known to all his many friends, was born October 6, 1872 in the community in which he resided his entire life. Although he had been in ill health for the past few months, his death came as a distinct shock to all who knew him.

Besides his widow, who was the former Miss Allie Hower, he is survived by seven children and one foster son, who are as follows -- R. N. and R. J. Caldwell of West Monroe; Mrs. Grace Noble, Monroe; Mrs. Bernice Cloud, Alexandria; Mrs. Vera Lanehart, Alexandria; Mrs. Daisye Todd of New Orleans; Mrs. Nel Nail of Fort Worth, Texas; and Joe E. Gallia of ward 5.

The funeral services were held from the Mt. Pleasant church of Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock and interment took place in the nearby cemetery under the direction of the Riser Funeral Home, Columbia.

Funeral services were in charge of Rev. G. W. Wall, pastor of the church.
