Civil War Congressonial Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company C, 21st Connecticut Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on May 16, 1864 at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia. His citation reads "While retreating with his regiment, which had been repulsed, he voluntarily returned , in the face of the enemy's fire, to a former position and rescued a wounded officer of his company who was unable to walk." (bio by: Don Morfe)
