Twylla M. (Jeffrey) Knutson Reiland, 90, of Cumberland died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Our House Memory Care in Rice Lake. She was born March 13, 1921 in Cumberland, WI to William and Emma (Hanson) Jeffery. Twylla graduated from Cumberland High School in 1939 and from the Eitel Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. She joined the US Army during WWII, serving in New Caledonia and Australia. Twylla returned to Cumberland and married Sigvard Knutson on July 21, 1946 who preceded her in death on March 5, 1981. Twylla worked as a nurse in the Cumberland Hospital. She was the first Director of Nurses at the Cumberland Extended Care Unit and served from 1960-1982.
She was married on May 28, 1982 to Ernest Reiland who preceded her in death on July 7, 1985.
Twylla was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Homemakers Club, Cumberland United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Cumberland Music Club.
She is survived by daughters, Katharine Mays of Kokomo, IN and JoAnn (Rollie) Turner of Maple Grove, MN; son-in-law, Ralph Murphy of Prior Lake, MN; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (Bart) Kons, Melissa (Michael) Sudman, Matthew (Laura) Mays, Angela (David) Shaw, Michael (Chassity) Mays and Eric Turner; 10 great grandchildren, Jack, Kacee, Gunnar, Brandon, Kaylee, Carter, Cash, Madison and Leo; 1 brother, James Jeffery of Viroqua, WI; special friend, Gordon Greener of Cumberland and many nieces and nephews. Twylla was preceded in death by 2 husbands; 1 daughter, Janice Murphy; 3 sisters, Josephine Umhoefer, Harriet Heath White and Esther Wold and 1 brother, Bill Jeffery.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, Cumberland, WI with Rev. Annie Tricker officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, Cumberland, WI.
