Mr. Biggs attended the Williamston school, Fishburne Military School, and Smithdeal Massey Business School. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. In World War II he served with the 463 Parachute Artillery Battalion. He served with both the 82nd and 101 Airborne Divisions and saw service in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, Central Europe, Rhineland, and Austria. Being wounded three times, he received the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He remained in service until the end of the war as a first lieutenant (Battery Commander) and marched in the Victory Parade, New York City, in 1946.

Returning home, Mr. Biggs joined his father in the operation of the Biggs Funeral Home business. On March 4, 1950, he married Julia Harrison in the Church of the Advent. Mr. and Mrs. Biggs established a funeral home in Robersonville in 1957, and in 1959 they established a perpetual care cemetery between Williamston and Everetts, which became known as Martin Memorial Gardens.

This researcher is particularly grateful to Mr. Biggs for the clear and accurate information always found on any death certificate or other document to which he signed his name. His conscientious efforts are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
