Donato was born on Sept. 26, 1851 in Oratino, Italy and was a Carbenieri. There is a question as to his birth date and parents. Lakeview Cemetery gave the info that his birth was Aug. 7, 1850 and parents were Sylvester & Michelene Petti.
However, his marriage certificate to Marianna lists his parents as Angelo & Anastasia Petti. I then found a b.c. for Donato w/parents Angelo & Anastasia on 9/27/1851 so am using the m.c. infomation.
With Angelo & Anastasia Petti as his parents, he had 4 sisters & 3 brothers.
He was 27 when he married Marianna Petti on July 1, 1877 in Oratino and first arrived in New York on June 12, 1896 at age 45 and was naturalized on Oct. 9, 1905, Vol. 6 Petition # 2324. He went back to Oratino and returned to Cleveland on June 11, 1901 at age 49 on the ship Tartar Prince sailing from Naples, Italy. Along with him were his son-in-law Fedele Latessa and Fedele's brother Nicola.
Marianna and four children came over arriving in New York on April 29, 1907.
Donato and Marianna were 3rd cousins -- he on his mother's side and she on her father's side.
His cousin Michael also came to Cleveland and his son John married Marianna's niece Concetta Petti.
The 1910 census shows Donato, Mary, Domenic & Frank living at 1981 E. 120th St.
The 1920 census shows Donato, Mary and Frank living at 1906 E. 120th St. along with Domenic & his wife & son in a two family house & the Antonio Iafelice family living in a single home in the back.
Donato was a laborer in the masonry business and retired between 1910 and 1920.
Donato survived his wife by 18 years and never remarried.
He was living at 1013 National Rd. when he died at the age of 85 on Aug. 1, 1935 from broncho pneumonia and is buried in Sec. 22, lot 114-A, headstone #7036 at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio with his wife Mary and grandson Liberato Pinto. Donato had 6 living children and 28 grandchildren when he died.
