James Faulkner Leslie was born in Lesslie, York County, SC in 1803. His parents were Samuel Lessley and Eleanor McElwee Lessley. He married (1827) Elizabeth "Eliza" Craig who was born in 1810 presumably in York County SC (no record of her birth place was found). They had five chilren between 1828 and 1835. (oldest son) David Taylor Lesslie was born on 28 Feb 1828. Eliza died (1836 -1838?) in York County, SC. James Faulkner then married Mary W. Kenmore of Landsford (located on Catawba River) in Chester County in 1838?. They had six children between 1839 and 1851. All were born in Lesslie, York County, SC. In November, 1856, James and his wife sold 138 acres of land in Lesslie, SC. Together with all of their children except David Taylor and James Nanthaniel Craig Lesslie and other relatives/friends headed west to Arkansas seeking better land for farming. They settled in Bradley County, Arkansas near the town of Warren. They acquired land and founded a church, Hickory Springs ARP, which still exists today. He died in 1872 and is buried alongside his wife, Mary Kenmore in the church cemetery.
