Poindexter Dunn
Birth: Nov. 3, 1834
Death: Oct. 12, 1914

U.S. Congressman. Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, he graduated from Jackson College Tennessee, in 1854, studied law and moved to Arkansas, in 1856. There he engaged in growing cotton and served as a member of the Arkansas State House of Representatives in 1858. During the Civil War, he served as a Captain in the Confederate Army. After the war, he was admitted to the bar in 1867 and commenced the practice of law in Forrest City, Arkansas. In 1879, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-sixth Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1889. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law in various states and was appointed a special commissioner for the prevention of frauds on the customs revenue, New York City, in 1893. Relocating south, he was involved in the construction of railroads until his death at age 79 in Texarkana, Texas. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
