POQUOSON - Effie Watts Lackey , 93, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998. A native of Buena Vista, she had been a Peninsula resident for 54 years.
Effie retired in 1969 from her bookkeeper job at Orkin Pest Control in Hampton. She was a faithful attending, founding member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Hampton. She was an avid bridge player and an active member of two local bridge clubs until the time of her death.
Effie's husband, Charles E. Lackey, and their son, Charles E. Lackey Jr., preceded her in death. She will be deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Samuel F. and Bernadette A. Lackey of Poquoson; her brother, Nelson S. Watts Jr. of Madison Heights; four grandchildren, Charles E. Lackey , Laura D. Evans, Dawn M. Stahmer and Daryl E. Lackey; and five great-grandchildren, Brad Pitts, Sammy Evans, Cassie and Courtney Lackey and Cameron Stahmer.
Her service was held at Bethany United Methodist Church by the Rev. William G. Davidson. She was buried with her husband and son in Peninsula Memorial Park.
