Mrs. Eugene Sester, 32, Was Fatally Burned As She Was Pouring Kerosene From A Can Into Stove At Her Home AT Burlington
Mrs. Eugene Sester, 32, Burlington, was fatally burned as she was attempting to start a fire in a cook stove by the use of kerosene Saturday morning.
The accident happened at 7 o'clock as Mrs. Sester began the preparation of breakfast and three children. Mr. Sester, hearing screams of pain, ran into the house from the farm yard and found his wife's clothing ablaze. The husband was severely burned about the arms as he attempted to save Mrs. Sester.
Dr. D. C. Roach of Burlington was called to the home and after an examnation of the burns stated that the woman's condition was too critical to permit her removal to a hospital.
Mrs. Sester was pouring kerosene in the stove when the flames leaped into the can and caused it to explode. The flames shot all over her body setting her dress on fire in several places. Mr. Sester rushed into the home but the woman's clothes were almost completely consumed by the fire before he could lend assistance.
The Sester family resides on what is known as the old Mann farm directly across from the railroad depot at Burlington. The property is owned by Thomas E. Perkins of Elgin.
