OBITUARY

Otis Archer was born January 1, 1871 in Moultrie County, Illinois, to George and Sarah Archer. He passed away in the St. Francis Hospital, St. Francis, Kansas, early Wednesday morning, April 12, 1950 at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 11 days.

He moved with his parents to a homestead northwest of Ludell in Rawlins County, Kansas in 1884. Here he met and married Ella Nora Kendall on July 14, 1895. To this union, two sons were born, Harry E. and the other son died in infancy. In 1900, he and his family moved to McDonald.

Mr. Archer was a great lover of children and at different times he and his wife had taken unfortunate children into their home. Mrs Dorothy Pickett was taken at the age of fourteen months and raised to womanhood and Mrs. Wm. Gosser of Hays made her home with them for several years.

For the last four years Mr. Archer lived with his son and family.

He was a charter member of McDonald Lodge No. 383 A.F.&A.M. and also a past master.

His wife, who passed away April 5, 1941; one son; his parents; two sisters, Mrs Eunice Ward and Mrs. May Bliss preceded him in death.

He leaves a son Harry; a daughter-in-law, Esther; two grandsons Arlie Gene and Harry Ross Archer; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Pickett and her husband, Albert; one brother, Major Archer of Atwood; other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Archer at two-thirty, Friday afternoon, April 14, from the McDonald Federated Church with a former pastor, Rev. J.S. Coppoc, of Goodland officiating. The members of the McDonald Lodge No. 383 A.F.&A.M. conducted the Lodge service at the cemetery. He was laid to rest beside his wife in the Grace Cemetery at McDonald under the direction of the Trickett Funeral Home service.

Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Major Archer and Mrs. Belle Kendall, Atwood; Mr.and Mrs. William Gosser, Hays; Ira Ward, Wichita; Everett Archer, Boulder, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bliss, Loveland, Colo.; Otis Archer and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Archer, Freemont, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Kendall, and Mrs. Edna Becker, Brewster; Melvin Archer, Denver; Elmer Moore, Levant; Mrs. Dora Short, Mr.and Mrs. Hubert Smith and Phil Short, Phillipsburg; Mrs. David Mai, Russel; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Short and Barbara and Roy Short, Goodland; Mrs. Ted Raile and Mrs. Darrel Miller, St. Francis.
