Anton was born in Germany on October 4, 1833 in Lohne, amt Vechta, Oldenburg and came to this country with his parents when seven years of age and settled with them on a farm north of Teutopolis. The next year, his father died and his mother married George Henry Mindrup, a widower with three sons; Fred, Caspar and Barney. At nineteen years of age, Anton, with his step brothers, started to follow the carpenter trade.
