John Howard Adamson passed away at 1:40, Tuesday afternoon, October 10, in Hazel McGilvery Hospital, following an illness of about a month's duration. In September, he entered Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for treatment, and was brought to the hospital in Meyersdale the end of last week. He was aged 69 years, seven months, having been born March 19, 1879, in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of John H. and Marjorie (Provan) Adamson. At an early age he came to this country with his parents. He was educated as a civil engineer and was employed by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad for many years, most of that time in Baltimore. During the time of the reconstruction of the B. & O. tunnel at Sand Patch, he was located in Meyersdale where he met and married Miss Bertha Stein in 1912. He retired from employment with the B. & O. R.R. Co., in 1937. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was interested in civic affairs in Meyersdale. During World War II, he served on the county ration board. He was a 32nd degree Mason of Chesapeake Consistory, Baltimore, and was a member of the F. & A. M. Lodge, Morgantown, W.Va. Surviving are his wife; two sons, John and Alex C. of Pittsburgh; two daughters, Mrs. William P. Cover and Anne, Meyersdale, and six grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Adamson home on North Street, this (Thursday) afternoon at three o'clock with the Rev. H. K. Hilner officiating. Pallbearers were Frank and J. N. Thomas, Norman G. Fike, Frank Heffley, Thomas Shipley and Carl Miller. Serving as honorary pallbearers were John Weakland, R. H. Philson, William T. Metz, John Bender, R. H. Bowman and Charles Jenkins. Interment was made in Union Cemetery under direction of W. C. Price & Son.
