Pierre has estate records and death records at the Oregon State Archives, Salem, Oregon. At this time they are filed under his American name, Peter M. Mathiot. They show that he died in Portland on 15 September 1898 and that his estate was filed in Multnomah County Court and has the file number 3619 which is still in use today. It can also be seen on film at the Multnomah County Court House in downtown Portland.
Peter was the head of an Oregon Pioneer Family. At least part of the family moved to Portland about 1878 and they have lived there almost continually since.
