World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Private, in the 5th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment, British Army. During actions at Kefr Hasim, Palestine, September 10 and 11, 1918, Private Needham faced about 40 Turks alone which gave the patrol commander time to get his men together. He later helped the patrol with casualties and managed to get back all their wounded. For bravery in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in October 1918. He was killed in action at Kantara, Egypt, on November 4, 1918.
