Robert A. Coyne

Robert "Bob" Coyne, 79, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Mercy West Lakes Hospital in West Des Moines of Pulmonary Fibrosis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 1, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, of which he was a 50 year member. Burial will follow in the Waukee Cemetery.

Bob was born in Scranton, IA on October 1, 1931, lived in Jefferson and in Des Moines and graduated from Dowling High School. He served in the US Navy from 1951 - 1955 during the Korean War and later served in the Naval Reserve for 20 years. Bob married Patricia S. Kennedy in February, 1962 and moved to Waukee that October. He was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service for over thirty years, retiring in 1986.

Bob was a Cub Scout Pack Leader and Little League Baseball coach for several years. He enjoyed genealogy, military history and following his son's sporting events and school activities. Bob loved traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia, his sons, John (Pam) Coyne and their sons, Samuel, Jacob, Aidan and Ross of Ortonville, MI and Philip (Lynne) Coyne and their daughter, Berkeley of Urbandale; his sister, Theresa Ellerbrock of Los Angeles, CA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Cleopha L. (Kelley) Coyne and his siblings, John Coyne, Joseph Coyne, Kathryn Coyne, Bernard Coyne, Martin Coyne and Charles Coyne.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society .
