Mrs. Byrd Shafer, widow of James R. Shafer, grocery man of Edina for nearly a lifetime, died Monday at the St. Joseph Hospital in Quincy, where she had been a patient for four years.
Mr. Shafer in earlier life was a clerk in the grocery store of his father, Capt. E. B. Racket Store grocery. There were in business eighteen years.
The body of Mrs. Shafer was brought here to the Kriegshauser Funeral Hoe, where services were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. Terry Armstrong of Knox City. Burial was in the new St. Joseph Cemetery beside the grave of Mr. Shafer, who died July 19, 1931.
Surviving are a brother, John "Jack" Kern, a patient in Nursing Home No. 1 at Kirksville, and a niece, Mrs. James E. Daily, of Kirksville.
