Willodene Poole Robertson, died Sunday, September 25, 2011, at her residence near Gloster.

She was 92. Willodene was born July 13, 1919, to Willie A. and Emily Berryhill Poole, and grew up in the Homochitto Community. As a member of Mississippi's athletic Poole family, she followed in the footsteps of her brothers Buster, Ray, and Barney. She was a graduate of Natchez High School and attended Holmes Jr. College on a full basketball scholarship, where she was All-State. Following graduation from Holmes she was invited to play with the Redheads, a semi-pro women's team, but instead chose to finish her education at Mississippi Southern College, now USM. She then accepted a position at Fernwood High School, where she taught business and coached women's basketball. Her teaching career spanned 30 years and included positions in Crosby, Centreville, and Gloster. She was a member of Mississippi Retired Teachers' Association and a member of Centreville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Robertson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George H. Robertson, Sr., her brothers and sisters:Buster Poole, Ray Poole, Barney Poole, Ruby Poole, Johnnie Seale, and Hilda Cothren, and her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry R. and Billy Aldridge.

Survivors include on son, George H. "Robbie" Robertson and his wife Karen Robertson of Liberty; one daughter Susan Howell and her husband John Howell of Hattiesburg; four grandchildren: Dave Aldridge and his wife Jennifer Aldridge of St. Francisville, LA.; Katie Walker and her husband Mitch Walker of Osan, South Korea; Rob Robertson and his wife Sara Robertson of Madison; Emily Cook and her husband Dave Cook of Osterville, MA; John Thomas Howell of Hattiesburg; and eight great-grandchildren: Hannah, Ian, and Jack Walker; Rhett, Colt, and Beau Robertson; Sarah Cook and Will Aldridge; one sister-in-law, Wanda Poole of Oxford; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster, Tuesday, Sept.27,2011 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Also visiting Wednesday, 9:30 A.M. until time of funeral services at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Gloster. Paige Cothren and Rev. Bobby Thornhill will officiate. Interment will follow in Roseland Cemetery in Gloster,MS.
