William C. Schaffner, 76, of Harrisburg, died Wednesday, January 11, 2006 in Select Speciality Hospital, Camp Hill.
He retired from the Harrisburg School District after a 25 year teaching career. He was chairman of the English Department of Edison Junior High, founder of the FTA club and its sponsor for 15 years at Edison; he was also a teacher in the middle school of the Harrisburg Academy.
He graduated from Bucknell University in 1951 and received his Master's in Administration and Supervision from Bucknell in 1953. He did additional work at Penn State University, Temple, Lebanon Valley and Shippensburg State with a certification in guidance. He was a past-president of the Harrisburg Alumni Club of Bucknell University.
He was a 53 year member of the Paxton Presbyterian Church, Paxtang and a former superintendent of the Junior and Senior High departments in their Sunday School; and a member of the Kappa Phi Kappa and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternities.
He was a life member of NEA, NCTE, a former board member of PCTE, life member of Dauphin County Historical Society and former secretary of their board of directors; member of the National Trust of Historic Preservation, the Harrisburg Civic Opera Association, the Friends of Fort Hunter and a member Winterthur Guild of Delaware.
He is survived by several cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 2 p.m., in Paxton Presbyterian Church, 3500 Sharon Street, Paxtang, with the Rev. John W. Green, Pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Paxton Churchyard. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. in the church.
Fackler-Wiedeman Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethesda Mission, P.O. Box 3041, Harrisburg, PA 17105.
