Mr. John Arnold, probably one of the oldest citizens in this section of the state, died Tuesday night, after an illness of nearly two weeks, having suffered a slight stroke of paralysis in the throat about ten days ago, which was doubtless brought on by a stroke of apoplexy.
The physician who attended him in his last illness says that even at the advanced age of 102 years and ten months, he was as fine a specimen of physical manhood as one would ordinarily expect to see in a man of half that age and like Moses, the famous leader of Israel, his "eyes were not dimmed nor his natural force abated," when the Lord called him home.
Only a few weeks ago he and his wife came to town to make some purchases and was a regular attendant during the protracted meeting at Baylis Chapel. Mr. J. T. Arnold, his son, who is 62, and most of his children were at his bedside when he breathed his last. The deceased has a living sister who is about four years older than he is, showing the longevity of this remarkable family.
Mr. Arnold was twice married and was the father of sixteen children, two boys and fourteen girls. A more extended notice of the life and character of Mr. Arnold will be given in the next issue. The remains were interred today at Baylis Chapel, the services being conducted by Rev. B. F. Lewis, of Columbia. BUSH.
