Wellknown Western Rancher and Bank Official Was Ninety-Two

Ira King Hillman, 92, prominent rancher, stockman and bank director of Logan, and one of the most prominent builders of arigcultural enterprise in this area, died today at his home, 315 East Fourth North street, following an illness of more than a year.

Mr. Hillman, through his various activities in ranching and finance, had become well known throughout the entire west.

He was born March 22, 1852, at Little Cottonwood, Salt Lake county, a son of Ira King and Mary Prinariah[sic] Petty Hillman. He married Druscilla[sic] Hendricks in 1870. She died during August of 1925. On March 29, 1929 he married Ester[sic] Waldron and since that time had made his home in Logan.

When a small boy, Mr. Hillman moved to Richmond and lived with his grandmother, Margaret Petty. He worked in that community for several years and then went to Lewiston, Utah, to live with an uncle, William H. Lewis. While working with Mr. Lewis, he freighted with mule teams between Corinne and Montana. Traveling on his route, he became acquainted with the Swan Lake, Idaho, section, and purchased the Gooseberry ranch there, where he made his home for 47 years.

Besides his career as a rancher and stockman, he became affiliated with the Thatcher Banking company in Logan during 1883 and in 1915 was elected to the board of directors. When the Thatcher firm was succeeded by the First Security Bank of Utah, Mr. Hillman was retained as a member of the advisory board.

Surviving are his wife, the following sons and daughters - Ira King Hillman of Oxford, Idaho; Robert C. Hillman of Rio Grande, Texas; James Warren Hillman of Provo; Mrs. Pearl Nordick of Swan Lake, Mrs. Lavan[sic] Gailey of Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Mabel Quayle of Logan.

There survive also a brother, M. Hillman of Rexburg, Idaho; 35 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Eight grandsons are in military service and one granddaughter is a cadet nurse.

Arrangements for the funeral service will be held in Logan Fifth ward and are under the directions of the Kenneth Lindquist Morturary of Logan.
