Mrs. Helen Duncan Barlowe, 84, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2011.
Mrs. Barlowe, a native of McDowell County, NC, lived most of her life in Marion. She was a lifelong member of the East Marion Pentecostal Holiness Church where she sang with her family for many years. She was employed with Belks retiring in the early 1980's.
Mrs. Barlowe was active in the Senior Center and was passionate about bowling in which she was active for many years. In 2005, her family moved to Greenville to live near her son and grandson. In Greenville she attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Clinton Barlowe; son, Douglas Barlowe and wife, Janice; grandchildren, Ryan J. Barlowe and Eva K. Barlowe; brother, Dean Duncan; and a sister, Ruby Lusk.
The funeral service was conducted Friday, August 5, 2011, at 5 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel officiated by the Rev. Paul Brafford and Rev. Don Reynolds. The family received friends immediately following the service until 8 pm.
A graveside service was conducted Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 4 pm in McDowell Memorial Park in Marion, NC. Family visitation in Marion was Saturday from 2 to 3:30 pm at Westmoreland Funeral Home and Crematory, Marion.
