Hunnewell Man Killed
Ben Ellsworth was in town Thursday and reported the killing of Homer Mitchell, of Hunnewell, while traveling in Arkansas.
Mitchell and his brother-in-law, Ben Dunlap, were traveling together in a covered wagon on a prospecting trip through Arkansas. While camped near Bentonville on Monday night the two young men had some kind of an altercation, in the course of which Mitchell was shot and fatally injured by Dunlap. There was no third party present and nothing is known as to the cause of the shooting aside from the statement of Dunlap, who claims to have acted in self-defense.
Mitchell, the murdered man, was about twenty-two years of age and married last Christmas. His parents are dead and he had been raised by his grandfather, George Mitchell, at Hunnewell. The grandfather and the young wife left this morning for Arkansas to secure the body, which will be taken to Illinois for burial. It is understood that Dunlap has been arrested.
