J. E. Birdwell Sr.

Passed Away Sunday


James E. Birdwell, Sr., aged 65, passed away at eight a. m. Sunday at Mountain Home. The funeral will be Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at Chuckey Presbyterian Church with interment in the Chuckey Cemetery. The ministers will be Rev. R. Allen Chapman and Rev. W, L. Peery.


Active pall bearers will be R. C. Hice, J. B. Masengill, Earl White, Ross Daniels, James A. Love,

Arnold Prisock, David White, and J. D. Johnson.


Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Men's Bible Class of Chuckey Presbyterian Church, Rural Carriers and Clerks of the Chuckey Post Office and J. D. Self, ‹ Robert Broyles, Dr. Ernest Broyles, C. L. Bitner, J. M' Burgner. J. R. McLain, Hugh Johnson, I. D. Haun and Rev. W. C. Winslow.


He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Earnest Birdwell: one daughter. Mrs. Harry White of Decatur, Ga.; one son, J. Edwin Birdwell, Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; one brother, Hubert Birdwell of Farmville, Va. and six grandchildren.


Mr. Birdwell was a member and officer in the Chuckey Presbyterian. Church and active in the church work as long as his health permitted. He was a veteran of World War 2


The body will remain at Doughty Stevens Funeral Home until it is removed to the church to lie in state an hour before the service. SHB
