US Congressman. He attended Richmondville Seminary, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1865, served as president of the Village of Cobleskill (1882-84) and was chairman of the Democratic county committee for ten years. In 1885, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-ninth Congress, served until 1887, was elected to the Fifty-first Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of David Wilber, serving (1890-91). After his term, he opened a legal firm in Cobleskill, New York and practice law util his death at age 71.
