MRS. LIZZIE ELLWOOD
Mrs. Lizzie Ellwood, wife of Chas. Ellwood, of this city, is no more. Early last Sunday morning, August 18, 1929, she passed away after a very brief illness, at the age of 62 years, one month and 26 days.
It seems almost impossible that Mrs. Ellwood is dead. Although she has been ailing to some extent lately, yet very few, if any realized that the end was so close at hand. Her place is empty, both in home and church, and she will be missed by all with whom she came in contact. She was a loving, inspring, Christian mother who leaves the most happy memories and an example worthy of imitiation.
Mrs. Ellwood was born in Bollnas, Sweden, June 22, 1867. She was baptized in infancy. Already at the age of two years she came to Callender, Iowas, where she was confirmed, May 25th, 1882, and remained a faithful member of the Lutheran church ever since.
In 1887 she was united in marriage to Mr. Charles G. Ellwood, who now mourns her departure. To this union were born eleven children, of whom two have preceded her in death, Oliver and LeRoy. The family moved to El Campo in 1892, and have lived here continually, passing through the pioneer hardships and she lived to see El Campo as a little prosperous city.
Mrs. Ellwood has been a member of the Philippi Luthern church from its beginning and was a charter member of W.M.S. She was always faithful in discharging her duties both in home and church.
Funeral services were held from the church of her faith Monday afternoon 3:30, when the church was filled to overflowing with relatives and friends. The immense floral tribute gave evidence of how she was loved and esteemed by all. Interment was made in the Swedish Lutheran cemetery. Rev. A. Walfred Anderson officiating.
The deceased is mourned by a loving husband and 9 children: Clarence Ellwood, Mrs. Freeman Bard, Mrs. John Bard, Mrs. Cortez Allen, and Mrs. Merle Swanson, all of El Campo; Edgar Ellwood of Sinton, Texas; Mrs. L. H. Herrman of Houston; Leonard Elwood of Temple, Texas; Mrs. L. C. Plummer of Galveston, Texas; also 20 grandchildren. She leaves also an aged father, Olof Adling of California, and a sister, Mrs. L. N. Lund, also of California, and a host of friends.
God bless her memory, and may she rest in peace.
