~LEROY - Herman John Whitaker, a retired technical sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, died Friday at a hospital in Jackson, Ala. He was 71.
~A native of Escambia County, Whitaker was a resident of Leroy.
~He was a member of First Baptist Church of Leroy.
~Survivors include his wife, Frances Pearl Whitaker of Leroy; two sons, Dean Moseley of Leroy and Ron Johnson of Mobile; five brothers, Jack Whitaker of Jacksonville, Fla., Gene Whitaker of Huntsville, Harry Whitaker of Pace, Fla., and Franklin Whitaker and Lamar Whitaker, both of Milton; one sister, Hazel Whitaker of Milton; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
~Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. service at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial with full military honors will take place in Midway Methodist Cemetery in St. Stephens, Ala.
