Noah Monroe Givan married Miss Lizzie C. Jackson in August of 1862. Four children were born to this union, burying all but one daughter.

Mr. Givan received an academic education at Manchester. He spent three years at Franklin College leaving at the close of his junior year, graduating at the state university in Bloomington in 1852. While preparing for college, and during his college course of studies, he supported himself by teaching school beginning at the age of 16. At the age of 19, he was principal of the Manchester Academy for one year, and principal of the Lawrenceborough, Indiana, graded schools, after receiving his Bachelor of Arts. While teaching school, Judge Givan began studying law and was admitted to the bar in 1864. In 1866, he moved to Missouri and was admitted to the bar in Harrisonville, and was successful in his practice until he was elected as judge of the seventh judicial circuit in September 1877, to fill an unexpired term. He was re-elected in November 1880. His district comprises Cass and Johnson Counties. He has been a member of the Masonic lodge for many years in Harrisonville. He is a grand dictator of the Knights of Honor. Judge Givan is a stockholder in the bank of Harrisonville. He is a member of the Baptist Church.
