U.S. Congressman. Born in Chester, Massachusetts, he moved with his parents to New York, in 1810 and later engaged in mercantile pursuits. He served in the New York State Assembly, (1816-17), was a member of the convention to revise the constitution of the State of New York in 1821 and held several local offices in Sempronius, New York. In 1823, he was elected as a Crawford Republicans candidate to the Eighteenth Congress and elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third Congress, serving until 1835. After his term, he resumed mercantile pursuits until his death at age 74 in Moravia, New York.
