Christian was born to Johann Christian David Friedrich Templin (1809-?) and Sophie Templin (1820-?). He married Sophia Johanna Tessin in Mecklenberg, Schwerin, Germany on 31 October 1873. They made the big move to America in 1882 aboard the "Westphalia" with their children Fritz, then 8, Wilhelm, then 6, Bertha, then 3 and Herman who was an infant.

They first lived a short time in Will Co. and Joliet, Ill where they were naturalizated on 1 november 1884. They then moved to Traverse Co., Minnesota where they lived the rest of their lives. Along the way they had two more children.

Their children were:

1. Fredrich "Fritz" Bernhardt Christian Templin (also known in America as Fred) 1874-1946

2. Wilhelm "William" Carl Martin Templin 1876-1931

3. Bertha Henrietta Wilimena Templin (Erbe) 1879-1956

4. Herman "Henry" John Templin 1881-1932

5. Emma Martha Templin (Applequist) 1885-1953

6. Rosa "Rosie" Sophia Johanna Templin (Proebstle) 1893-1979
