Clara Belle Davis was born November 5, 1891 in Mississippi, daughter of Henry Amos Davis (1854-1912) and Mariah Francis Tarney (1852-1935).

Clara came to Bryan County, Oklahoma from Mississippi in 1903 when she was 12 years old. She was one of seven children, three boys and four girls. The boys came to Bryan County first and then the girls all came later in 1903 and lived at Twelve Mile Prairie until Clara was married.

Clara married William Thomas White who was born July 1, 1887 in Texas. Clara and William had two daughters, Opal and Jewell.

The 1920 Federal Census for Durant Ward 4, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Clara White, a retail drygoods saleslady, age 26, born in Mississippi; and her husband, W. T. White, County Weigher, age 31, born in Texas. Also living in the household were their two children, Opal White, age 9; and Jewell White, age 7; both born in Oklahoma. In addition, Clara's mother, Emma Davis, a widow, age 67, born in Mississippi was living with the family.

The 1930 Federal Census for Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Clara B. White, a retail drygoods saleslady, age 38, born in Mississippi; and her husband, W. T. White, bookkeeper for the county treasury, age 42, born in Texas. Living with them was their daughter, Opal White, age 19, born in Oklahoma.

The 1940 Federal Census for Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Clara B. White, owner of a retail ready-to-wear shop, age 48, born in Mississippi; and her husband, W. T. White, worked for the county treasury, age 48, born in Texas. Living with them was their grandson, Garlan W. Gibson, age 9, born in Texas. Living next door was Clara and William's daughter, Opal Gwaltney, and her husband, Harold.

Clara was a highly respected part of the business world for 54 years. She was head saleslady of the Ladies Ready to Wear Department of Perkins Brothers for 21 years. This was a department store formerly located at Third and Main street in Durant. She was owner of her own business, White's Ready to Wear, for 53 years.

Clara was active in community affairs and served on most of the committees organized for the betterment of Durant. She was a volunteer work in Polio, March of Dimes, Heart, and Cancer health campaigns. She was a member of the committee for getting Market Square paved and made into parking areas. She was a member of the commmittee for getting Bryan Memorial Hospital in Durant, and was listed in Who's Who of Business Women. She was a faithful member and worker in the Catholic Church. She was nominated and selected as Woman of the Year in 1973 in Durant.

William died February 15, 1947 in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and was buried there in the Highland Cemetery. Clara died January 20, 1981 in Durant and was buried in Highland Cemetery beside her husband.
