James Nolan came to Brainerd from Berlin, Ontario, Canada in 1889 to visit his brother, Anthony. He decided to remain and sent for his family in February 1890. James had three brothers: Michael, Martin and Anthony; and two sisters, Mary Ann and Ellen. James Nolan and Catherine McCormick were married February 1, 1869 in Macton, Ontario, Canada. James Nolan, age 76, of 208 First Avenue Northeast, died Thursday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock at a local hospital, death being due to a complication of disease. He was born in Peteroro [sic], Ontario, Canada, and was married to Miss Catherine McCormick, at Macton, Ontario. They came to America in February 1890, and settled in Brainerd at that time.
Mr. Nolan worked in the shops for a number of years and in later years followed the occupation of teamster. He was a member of the Catholic church and attended services faithfully.
He leaves a wife, and these children, Mrs. C. B. Rowley, Mrs. S. R. Adair, James J. Nolan and John Nolan, all residing in Brainerd. He has one sister, Mrs. James O'Neil of Drayton, Ontario.
The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Francis church, Rev. Father J. J. O'Mahoney officiating.
