Elvin "Butch" Alford Sr., 74, of Route 2 St. Albans, died Friday in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was retired from Union Carbide and was a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving: wife Thelma; daughter,
Mrs. Jessie L. Blalock of Annandale, Va; sons Elvin S. Jr. and Curtis, both of South Charleston, Ray of Willoughby, Ohio; sisters, Miss Mamie Alford and Mrs. Alice Childress, both of South Charleston; brothers, the Rev. Herbert Alford of Scott Depot, Romea of South Charleston; 11 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Casdorph-Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Rev. Clark Bryan and the Rev. C.A. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
