World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 5th Battalion, Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment. At St Servin's Farm, France on August 31, 1918, 2nd Lieutenant Huffam with three men, rushed a German machine-gun post and put it out of action. His post was then heavily attacked and he withdrew fighting, carrying a wounded comrade. Later that night, accompanied by two men, he rushed another enemy machine-gun post, capturing eight prisoners and enabling the battalion advance to continue. For utmost gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal in December 1918 and later achieved the rank of Major.
