Kentucky, USA
Death: Feb. 1, 1918
Ada County
Idaho, USA

Born in Cumberland County, Kentucky, USA. Died in Boise, Ada County, Idaho USA.

Married John M. Hailey, 07 Aug 1856

Paper unknown (probably Idaho Statesman, Boise) Saturday Morning, February 2,
Death claimed one of Idaho's oldest pioneers early Friday morning, in the person of Mrs. Louisa Griffin Hailey, wife of "Uncle" John Hailey, curator of the State Historical society. Mrs. Hailey, who was 84 years old, had been a sufferer for a good many years, but at the last death came quietly. The funeral services will be held at the Schreiber & Sidenfaden chapel at 1:30 Sunday, and
interment will be in the Masonic cemetery, where an infant child is buried. The Rev. Dr. W. W. Van Dusen will have charge of the services.
Mrs. Hailey had been a resident of Idaho for 52 years, having come first to Boise in 1865, and then later having lived for 12 years on Wood river. The town of Hailey is named for her husband. She had lived in Boise for the last 12 years.
Mrs. Hailey's life was an eventful one. Born in Kentucky, October 15, 1833, she went to Missouri with her family in 1840, and then crossed the plains with them in 1848 and settled in southern Oregon.
It was at the close of the Rogue river Indian war, which lasted two years,
and in which her father, brother and sweetheart were engaged, that she married Mr. Hailey, August 7, 1858.
She was one of the pupils of the veteran western missionary, H. H. Spaulding.
Mr. and Mrs. Hailey have had eight children, five of whom are living, Jesse C. of Owyhee county, John, jr., of Pendleton, Mrs. Leona Hailey Cartee of Vera Cruz, Cal., who was with her mother when she died; Beryl B. of Boise, and George C. of Fallon, Nev. A brother, James T. Griffin, lives in this city, and there are two brothers and a sister in Oregon and a niece, Mrs. Fred Gooding of Shoshone.
