YARMOUTH - Janet L. Johnson, 55, of Yarmouth, died of lung cancer, May 30, 2000, at Maine Medical Center. She was the wife of Wayne M. JOhnson. She was born in Waldoboro, the daughter of Lalia H. and Wendall L. Blanchard. Janet was a graduate of Waldoboro High School, a graduate of Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield and was also sea goddess of the 1963 Rockland Lobster Festival. She graduated from Emerson College in Boston with a major in speech, where she was involved in speech sompetitions, theater, was elected bu teh student body as junior prom queen and was a member of Zeta Phi Eta Sorority. After graduation she moved to Washington, D.C. while her husband attended law school, worked for IBM Federal Systems Division and did part time professional modeling. She was a member of the First Parish Church in Yarmouth and employed as a secretary to the principal at Yarmouth High School. She was delighted that the students dedicated the yearbook to her and her good friend Nora Perry in 1999. She was active in all events involving her children, little league, music, field hockey, Rocky Coast Figure Skating Club, Casco Bay and Yarmouth Clipper Hockey and participated in Skate America Ice Shows at the Cumberland County Civic Center. IN 1987, she accompanied her two sons to Sweden and Helsinki, Finland as they trained at Nordic Hockey schools. On the trip she became fascinated by the myths and history of Scandinavia and Iceland. Her daughter, Liza, recalls that she didn't miss an activity involving her children. "She was dedicated to us and we knew we were truly loved." She was an avid reader of Stephen King novels and her sons recall that she relished attending musicals at the Wong Theater in Boston. Surviving are her husband of Yarmouth; sons, Sven, of POrtland and Eric of Yarmouth; daughter, Mrs. K.J. "Liza" Scribner of Durham; grandson, Taylor; and stepgrandson, Josh of Durham; mother, Lalia of Camden; brother Wendall Blanchard of Cushing; niece, Karen Blanchard; nephew, Andy Blanchard; aunts, Mildred and Annette Brooks; and cousins. A memorial service was held 3 p.m. MOnday, June 5, at the First Parish Congregational Church, Main Street, Yarmouth. A private faily graveside service will be held in the family lot in Achorn Cemetery, Rockland. Arrangements are under direction of the Lindquist Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Johnson's memory to teh American Cancer Society, Maine Division, 52 Federal St., Box No. 456, Brusnwick, Maine 04011.
